Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his disappointment that the England team did not enjoy more encouragement from the home fans during their decisive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad continue their good form, with finishes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the contest. Yet, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“With one and a half training days to prepare against a organized team and we excelled,” Tuchel stated. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. The stadium was silent. We didn’t get support back from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you deliver in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s sad because the squad earned more support today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than being three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater support in moments where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Away from risking a dispute among fans, Tuchel also created controversy by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. But the move was validated by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and scoring his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” the head coach noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy expressed hope that Wales, who face Belgium in a key qualifying match on next week, learn from their awful performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this match,” Bellamy said. “I need to see where we are. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? Today fills me with motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and is a concern when the national team face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
