Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Assault Succumbs to Injuries

The female victim who was stabbed to her neck area during a random assault near a bus shelter within Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the attack.

Originally charged with attempted murder but following the victim's passing charges were upgraded to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting for witnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, trainers and rucksack.

The stabbing happened near Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand why it happened.

Eyewitness Reports

Shalini Doal, who works nearby, recounted the emergency response after completing her work period around 10 PM on Friday.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"Many co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern about what had happened.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.

"She lacks transportation employed at major concert locations... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
